Things I will never do😅: Professional climber Alex Honnold sent the entire world into a collective stress spiral by climbing Taipei 101 live on TV — no ropes, no harness, no second chances. He scaled the 11th-tallest building in the world in just over 90 minutes, as if it were a casual weekend workout.
For the rest of us mere mortals (& non-climbers), we may never compete with the paycheck he earned for scaling steel & glass without a rope — Either way, now amongst famous names we now have to remember 👉️ Alex Honnold: 101 floors. This is absolutely one to file away for a segment of Who Wants to Be a Millionaire?

Applied Engineering in Disguise

I remember reading about a group that knitted ‘sweaters for elephants’ in India — not for fashion, but for warmth & protection. It stuck with me because it showed how practical skills, empathy, & problem-solving can come together in unexpected ways. And now on similar lines, initiatives like the Levi’s® Wear Longer Project remind us that learning sometimes starts with a needle, thread, & a small problem to solve.

Applied engineering: “At first glance, this looks like a fashion or sustainability initiative. It’s not! It’s applied problem-solving disguised as clothing repair. This reflects the same failure-analysis mindset used in engineering, medicine, and software debugging — just applied to something as simple as denim seams.

Software – where did the logic fail?

Engineering – why did the system break?

Business/Product – why did users drop off?

Medicine – what caused the complication?

(The thought behind 👆️ Failure Analysis)

Why this works :

  1. Material science (fabric strength, wear, durability)

  2. Stress testing (why seams fail)

  3. Iterative design (test → fix → improve)

What’s next: If you are a high school student level-up 💪

  • Start a repair club at school or simple repair sessions

  • Collaborate with STEM, sustainability, or design students

Remember anyone can attend a workshop. When you repair, redesign, & reuse fabric, the lessons you gain go far deeper.

(Mom’s Napkin Math) Simple idea: As a student, this could easily be its own project — collecting old sweaters, sewing them together, & contacting an NGOs that needs them? Real contribution, real learning, & strong application material. Agree?

Internship Alert

Attn. students studying in UAE

The internet is overflowing with headlines about AI taking over every job — but here’s a little ray of sunshine for all the non-engineers and non-coders out there.

Coca-Cola Arena has pledged 500 hours in 2026 dedicated to supporting emerging event professionals through its Internship programme. This initiative will provide hands-on industry exposure across production, operations & event delivery, supporting the development of the next generation of live events professionals.

(Mom’s Napkin Math) If you are a senior school student in UAE—knock on the event door early. Even shadowing, virtual internships, or behind-the-desk roles can give you a front-row seat to how real events are put together.

Cardboard Engineers!!

Do you know a student who is always folding paper into shapes, building things out of cardboard, or turning everyday materials into something new?

From origami to DIY models & cardboard creations, these hands-on activities aren’t just crafts — they build design thinking, patience, spatial skills, and creative problem-solving. Opportunities like the Cardboard Adventures Designer/Maker Award are a fantastic step for students & early-career creatives.A very cool award — and a real behind-the-scenes look into the world of design and making. If you are a builder, a doodler, a DIY creator this is for you !!

This is huge for young adults who are:

  • exploring digital or hybrid theatre formats

  • creatives blending performance + tech

  • artists who want structure without losing their voice

Spotlight ⚡️

Starting a new CampusTalk feature highlighting smart, thoughtful ideas shared by students in school & university on social media & other platforms — especially ideas around AI, technology, innovation & solutions for the larger student community. Students are constantly building, thinking, & experimenting out loud online. But with the sheer volume of content, powerful ideas often get lost in translation. The plan is to review a wide range of sources every day, so you don’t have to. If your idea appears here, it’s shared with care, respect, & credit wherever possible.

(And of course, if you are uncomfortable with your content being showcased, just write to me & will take it down immediately. No questions asked!)

  • Arthur Park

His profile is refreshingly human & reads: “Building the most ‘unfundable’ startup in the world. What stood out to me wasn’t just the product — it’s the personality behind it. A little quirky, self-aware, & willing to chase his goal. Dayli is built around a simple idea

    less scrolling ✅

    more real-life connection ✅

It helps friends share availability & make plans without the endless back-and-forth turning “we should catch up” into actual plans.

As someone who enjoys psychology, what really stood out to me was this mix:

behavioral insight × user empathy × tech innovation.

Might be worth a look — have you tried it yet?

  • Amrit Vignesh

Skills like Amrit’s are a win-win — turning mathematical data into real decisions, staying ahead as AI evolves, & growing without waiting for permission. With strong interests in statistics & data science, a razor focus on sports analytics & prediction markets, he’s already completed an analytics internship with the Pittsburgh Penguins. Pro-level confidence, for sure! What eventually caught my eye is this mix:
data science × sports strategy × real execution.

Take a peek at his busy LinkedIn profile — seriously impressive, all while juggling

    academics ✅

    analytics ✅

    everything else? Double ✅ ✅

If sports analytics or prediction markets are on your radar — or if you’re just looking for real student inspiration — go ahead, knock on his Princeton dorm door.

  • Siddarth Mohanraj

A 4× national swimmer & finance enthusiast, Siddarth channels the discipline of elite sport into something far bigger than competition. He is building applied AI & deep learning systems designed for real-world agricultural impact. While most students discuss startups in theory, he is executing one. Alongside his teammate Sathvik, he is developing FarmSat & engaging in patent-stage collaboration, gaining exposure to research validation, technical structuring & intellectual property processes that few students experience this early.

FarmSat Pro gives farmers a single AI-powered platform combining real-time crop insights & predictive weather intelligence to support smarter, data-driven decisions before risk becomes loss.

Through applied technology the goal is measurable & impact aligned with SDGs 2, 3 & 12, improving

    food security ✅

    sustainability ✅

    rural livelihoods ✅

What makes his journey stand out is the blend of: AI × weather intelligence × agriculture upgrade

If you are a high school student with a serious idea: Take action: Reach out. Ask about patents or just start the connection-sometimes one intelligent conversation is all it takes to change your direction.

(Mom’s Napkin Math) Not every student needs to start from scratch.Sometimes the smartest move is learning from someone just a few steps ahead.

The Shout Out Section 🔈️

Since this newsletter is a free platform for students it feels right to shine the spotlight to other free & or purpose-driven initiatives out there. From charities & volunteer groups to campus clubs & community initiatives—these are the people quietly doing the work, creating impact, & making things better without asking for much in return. If you are a student group, nonprofit, or volunteer initiative creating positive change, this space is for you too. Sometimes all it takes is visibility for a good idea to grow.

LEGO® & meaningful Medicine

Meet Fairy Bricks — a registered children’s charity in England & Wales doing exactly that 🧱❤️. The goal is simple: get LEGO® bricks into the hands of kids who need a little joy while in hospital.

If you are a high school student thinking about medicine or healthcare, this is one of those quietly powerful ways to get involved that colleges actually care about. One student-led idea can spark something much bigger.

Ways to jump in 👇

  • Organize a LEGO® collection drive at your school

  • Consult with your school counselor to make it an official service project

  • Volunteer at events like Bricktastic 2026 UK’s largest LEGO® event

🧱 Bonus: if you already love LEGO®, this one’s a no-brainer.

As an educator (& a mom), this is my little contribution to your student journey. I am not big on long look-back recaps. Looking forward matters more.
