AI reveals prostate cancer is not just one disease

💬 A Cancer Research UK-funded study, published in Cell Genomics, has revealed that prostate cancer, which affects one in eight men in their lifetime, includes two different subtypes termed evotypes. The team hope their findings could save thousands of lives in future and revolutionize how prostate cancer is diagnosed and treated. Ultimately, it could provide tailored treatments to each individual patient according to a genetic test which will also be delivered using AI. Read more below.. 

No bandage needed!!

💬 Scientists are developing a treatment that targets the vagus nerves , which are large networks of nerve fibres that link the body with the brain . Despite its name, the treatment does not work like a typical tourniquet that blocks blood flow to injured appendages. Instead, the electrical pulses help to stimulate the spleen, which stores about one-third of the body’s platelets. The stimulation prods the spleen to ready platelets to form a clot.The team also tested the treatment on mice with haemophilia, a condition in which the blood does not clot properly , and found similar results. The experiment also hinted at how nerve stimulation achieves these results: it increases calcium uptake by platelets in the spleen and makes them more ready to release their innards when they reach an injured blood vessel. Both actions are key to clot formation.Read more here

👉️ Nikon's annual photomicrography competition showcases images of a world that humans can't usually see, as captured through the lens of a microscope.The Photomicrography Competition is open to anyone with an interest in microscopy and photography. Meet the Founder!

💬 Aanya Vora is a 16-year-old student at Dubai International Academy with a strong passion for sports. As a national badminton player and a member of her school's championship basketball team at the 2023 World School Games in Spain, Aanya's dedication is evident. A three-time DASSA and IVEI league champion, she values the lessons of teamwork, discipline, and perseverance that sports have instilled in her. Inspired by her experiences, Aanya founded #Equip2Empower to ensure that underprivileged children have access to sports and education, helping them unlock their potential and empower their futures. Equip2Empower is hosting a charity sports event on November 16th, in support of the Al Jalila Foundation. Let’s Support Aanya’s Equip2Empower’s mission to empower underprivileged children through sports with your presence at the event.And guess what its an event for everyone, even if you don’t play sports! 💬 At just 13 years old, this elementary school student Bhavisya Vignesh-all the way from California is incredibly passionate about all things related to space, technology, and artificial intelligence. What excites her the most is the opportunity to dive into new projects, learn quickly, and put her skills into action. She actively participates in and often leads bootcamps, events, and hackathons focused on space, coding, and STEM-related topics. Maybe we can all learn a little from Bhavishya Vignesh.
